This year's national exam results arrived in record time. On the education minister's instruction, the National Examinations Board (NEB) published the SEE (माध्यमिक शिक्षा परीक्षा) results 29 days after the last exam, and the Class 12 results in about 40 days. Results used to take 70–90 days.

Here is what the results showed, how retotalling works, and why the speed became controversial. Figures are as reported by Nepali media; see the sources at the end.

Class 12 (NEB) results

Class 12 exams ran from 27 April to 10 May 2026, and results were published on 19 June 2026.

  • Overall pass rate: 64.13%. This counts students who received grades in all subjects.
  • Regular students: 69.75%. Partial students (those re-sitting subjects): 42.38%.
  • 418,170 students appeared, according to the Kathmandu Post (332,241 regular and 85,929 partial). Republica reported a slightly different total of 418,179.
  • 268,190 students were graded.
  • The board took action against 40 students for irregularities.

Retotalling: what it costs and whether it's worth it

If you think a mark is wrong, you can apply for retotalling (पुनर्योग), in which the board re-checks how your marks were added up and entered.

  • Cost: up to Rs1,000 per subject for Class 12. The Kathmandu Post reported Rs1,000 on 19 June and "Rs500–Rs1,000" on 25 June.
  • Deadline: the application window is short. After this year's Class 12 results it ran from 20 to 26 June, so apply as soon as results are out.
  • Does it change anything? This year, more often than before. Of 32,200 SEE retotalling applications, 1,879 results were revised (5.81%), up from 3.32% last year. For Class 12, 32,800 students applied, down from 42,200 last year.

The SEE Examination Controller confirmed at least one case in which a student who scored 70 had only 7 entered into the system, the Kathmandu Post reported. About 1,000 answer sheets were also reported missing.

Why some students protested

In late June some Class 12 students said their marks were wrong. They campaigned online, and on 25 June 2026 they protested at Maitighar in Kathmandu. Some demanded that Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel resign.

The minister said in a Facebook post that "no errors had occurred in the publication of results". The government set up a probe committee of officials from the education ministry and the Curriculum Development Centre to check sample answer sheets, marking and data entry.

The two sides explain the problems differently:

  • The minister credits the faster timeline to extra staff and less red tape.
  • Critics blame the haste for the errors.
  • An NEB member, Prakash Man Shrestha, told the Kathmandu Post that "human error occurs every year".

As of September 2026, we could not find any published findings from the probe committee.

What to take from this

  • Results now come in weeks, not months. Plan admissions for Class 11 or university with that in mind. It hasn't been announced whether the 30-day and 40-day targets will apply to the 2083 exams.
  • If a mark looks wrong, apply for retotalling quickly. The window is about a week, and this year more applications than usual led to changed results.

Facts as of 24 September 2026. We'll update this page if the probe committee reports.
